Apple Day comes to the Braes

Have you heard of Apple Day? There's a day dedicated to celebrate the apple:

Saturday, the 4th of October 2025, will be the inaugural annual Apple Day for PCHub

Come along and celebrate the apple with us. It's one of the nation's best-loved fruits. Launched in 1990 by Common Ground, Apple Day is now an annual autumn event. All over the country

The apple is a firm favourite in the Scottish fruit bowl, but peel back its humble exterior and you'll realise that the apple has a huge part to play in our culture and the ecology around us.

Launched in 1990 by the charity Common Ground, Apple Day was intended to celebrate the beloved fruit's diversity and heritage

The first common ground, Apple Day was held in the old Apple Market in London's Covent Garden, bringing fruit back to the market after 16 years absence. The event brought together apple growers and nurseries; cider makers and juice pressers; illustrators and writers

Celebrated on or around the 21 October every year, the 'apple weekend' has become increasingly popular, encouraging people to organise their own events and bring together families, schools and communities.

Every year you'll find a string of Apple Day events throughout October. We are excited to bring one to the Braes by hosting this event; the apples themselves will be the stars.BUT;  We are also planning out a few fun activities

Manual Apple Scratter Pulper Pomace and Fruit and Apple Press?

We are collaborating with our friends at FEL, who will lend us a cargo bike for apple collection around the neighbourhood. They are also helping us source a Scratter & press. After our event day, these items will be added to our sharing library.

Apples are one of the most versatile fruits, and nothing celebrates their abundance in autumn like an apple harvest party. We need your help to plan the event and locate local apple trees. We are already starting to log the trees we know about, and so far, we have three supporters who are willing to donate apples from their gardens.
