Hub Social cinema Screening - ACT ion -ism

Image
Community Cinema Night or should we change it to - social cinema? The premiere of the film ACTionism, directed by Michael Shaw, took place at the Better Business Summit in Manchester, an annual flagship conference organized by the Better Business Network at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School. The theme of this year's summit, "Future Proof," posed a thought-provoking question: “What does your business need to truly be future proof?”  Two weeks following the premiere, the film ACTionism, which follows the inspiring journey of Ellie Meredith as she transforms from a passive consumer into an active citizen, received nearly 40 requests for community screenings from a diverse array of organizations. Requests poured in from the Green Party, Doughnut Labs, universities, schools, festivals, and even Polmont Community Hub—along with many other locations from around the globe, including the US, New Zealand, Wales, Denmark, Ireland, and the stunning Alps. As part ...

Oor muckle halls Burn`s night

Image
Tradition got a just transition  Sustainability Braes hosted and paid for a free community burns supper at Polmont Community Hub, they did fantastic justice (in PCHubs management team's eyes) of Transitioning the traditional burns supper into achieving - sustainability and governmental net zero targets, by giving the conventionall burns night an update ( whilst also being mindfull not to commit culturcide in achieving net zero targets,) We thought this entertaining evening wonderfully modernized Burns, keeping his strong spirit immortalised, it was a delightful experience! The evening celebrated tradition while also focusing on sustainability and environmental consciousness, achieving a thoughtful balance that paid homage to Polmont and Scotland's cultural roots. Not all that attended were the Indigenous population of Scotland some English people in attendance enjoyed the culture exchange, for example -an English lassie in attendance did not know that Scotland has four offic...

Easter Fun Day 2025

Image
The Easter Fund Day for 2025 has come to a close. Our posters advertised the event for Monday, April 21st, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, inviting everyone to join us for a free Easter Fund Day. The event included an egg hunt, Dr. Bike, fun activities and games for all ages, arts and crafts, and much more. Food and drinks were available, making it an inclusive gathering for all. However, the poster from FEL missed a few details, as there was much more to enjoy. We moved our social cinema to a new, smaller, and more homely room, which was a big success for us as a trial location. Unfortunately, there were only two attendees watching the film "The Flying Scotsman," a cycling film about one of Scotland's greatest cyclists. We also opened up the games room for pool, table football, And  board games Due to rain in the forecast, Braes Friendly Growers Group held their plant sale indoors. The setup was impressive, featuring an excellent choice of plants for sale. There w...

Forth Valley Ultramarathon

Image
Forth Ultra Donation The Scurry2Bridges recently held their second Forth Ultra, a 44-mile (71 km) circular ultramarathon around the Firth of Forth estuary. This challenging race crossed two iconic Forth Bridges and connected two well-known Scottish trails: the Fife Coastal Path and the John Muir Way. Starting and finishing at the iconic Kelpies, the course also incorporated a significant portion of the National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 76, which circles the bridges and the Forth. What does this have to do with the Polmont Community Hub? Last year's event marked the first collaboration between the Polmont Joggers Club (PJC), the Polmont Community Council (PCC), and the Polmont Community Hub (PCH). Four volunteers from these community organisations served as marshals last year, and they returned to help again this year. During last year's event, the funds paid to the marshals became the hub's very first monetary donation. Claire, who was not involved with the hub at that t...

Water Blitz Citizen Science

Image
Gilston Burn Citizen Science Our sustainability manager is very community-minded; he considers himself a global citizen. He works to support communities worldwide by monitoring environmental issues and advocating against acts of environmental vandalism. While he understands that not everyone is concerned about global issues, he firmly believes we should closely monitor the environment in our own community. Last year, he participated in the Great UK Water Blitz, a freshwater data collection event aimed at assessing water quality across the UK. Funded by Earthwatch, this initiative is an excellent way to care for and monitor our local freshwater resources. However, he was unaware of the act of environmental vandalism that would occur upstream of his chosen sampling point. His selected spot was Gilston Burn in Polmont, where the main road crosses the burn. Upstream from this sample point, the burn was bordered by trees on both banks as it wound its way towards Rumford. He initially ...
